North announces niko as stand-in

Today North announces that Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen will stand-in during Dreamhack Masters Stockholm and the Faceit London Major. Nikolaj will replace Daniel "mertz" Mertz on the starting lineup, as the latter moves to Heroic on a loan deal until October 1st.

Director of Esports, Jonas “whimp” Svendsen is of the belief that niko can fill an important role in the short term.

“Nikolaj is a player with a high skill ceiling, and despite his young age, he has already played on some of the biggest stages in the World. After conferring with Alexander, and valde who has played with niko for several months, I believe that Nikolaj could help the team in the coming two months,” Svendsen says.

When asked about the new challenges, niko says he is looking forward to get going:

"I’m happy to get to test myself in new surroundings and I simultaneously hope and wish the best for Heroic. In many ways, this is a special transfer and I have only good things left to say about Heroic and RFRSH. On the other hand is a good thing for me to enter a new group. North is one of the best teams in Denmark and a team with great ambitions. In that sense, it’s not far from what I’m coming from but I’m excited about this new challenge."

"I would like to use this occasion to send my thanks to everybody at RFRSH and Heroic and I’m looking forward to see everybody again this fall. Now is the time for something new, at least for the coming period. I’m happy that RFRSH and North together have given me this opportunity."

As part of the deal, mertz is loaned out to Heroic for the duration of the agreement.

“Daniel is a talented player, and stats shows that he knows how to wield the AWP. He is however still young and needs to grow even more in order to perform against the best teams in the World. Today, in order to be a top player, you need not only excellent mechanical skills but there many other factors and aspects come into play as well,” Svendsen says.

He adds that North will evaluate the team situation, when the players return from the FACEIT London Major in September

In a parting statement, Daniel “mertz” Mertz thanked the North organization and looks forward to play with Heroic:

“A new step has been taken in my esport journey, with an exciting chapter opening in Heroic and the chance to develop further. Heroic represents a great opportunity to build on the things I've learned in my time with North and I strongly believe, that we can fulfil both Heroics and my ambitions with the right dedication.

I would like to thank the people in North for the time being and for giving me the opportunity to learn from the highest tier and i'll keep striving to strengthen my position here".
